Strategic Business Units (SBUs) Of Larger Firms

what do we mean by sbu's?

An SBU (Strategic Business Unit) is a relatively independent part of a larger business and as such it tends to display many of the characteristics of the standard entrepreneurial businesses we usually work with. Hence we say that we make smaller businesses more business-like and we make larger businesses more nimble.

Typically, an SBU is a division, or a discreet part of, the main business but it has relative autonomy and gains greatly from developing an entrepreneurial mindset, while seeing the 'mothership' as the banker!
